Why I'm offering this training
I've run in-person workshops and courses since 2000 and during that time I've helped so many writers at every level overcome their blocks and find their way to fulfilment through creative expression.
I've also seen writers beat themselves up to such an extent that they lose sight of what should be core to their lives as writers: pleasure, relaxation, self-expression, pride in what they create.
How to be a Happy Writer is the first of a series of guides for you, the Fired-up Writer. I'm creating fast standalone trainings to help you with various aspects of writing, including techniques and mindset challenges. This Masterclass was originally a live training which I recorded and have now made available to you as a self-study class – with some extra surprises!

I run Fictionfire Literary Consultancy at www.fictionfire.co.uk. An award-winning short story writer and novelist, I'm an editor, consultant and writing coach, based in the UK. I've spent my whole life loving books and my whole professional life helping people understand the power of words and story, from high school students learning why classic texts have stayed the test of time, to writers learning to wield word-power for themselves.
I taught English Literature for many years but when I became a published author I was increasingly invited to talk about creative writing. I have taught on writing courses run by Oxford University since 2002 and at the University of Winchester's Writers' Festival since 2000. I loved sharing advice and experience with writers so much I wanted to take it further, so I founded Fictionfire Literary Consultancy in 2009.
Fictionfire has been a great adventure: I've designed workshops, run day courses at Trinity College, Oxford and writing retreats in Oxford and Cornwall. I've mentored writers through their writing projects, evaluated their manuscripts, pointed them in the right direction when they want to take their work to market. In 2017 alone, I edited 1.2 million words!
Now it's time to take another step in this Fictionfire adventure by sharing my expertise through online courses, so that I can bring my knowledge, practical help and that undying love of the world of story to more writers, whether new or more experienced, wherever they live. Join me!
